The Milk Market in Limerick reopened June 19th after extensive renovation and redevelopment. Nev was there to capture everything coming together.

Shepherd like you mean it.

We’re due a letter from the pope any day now. Wonder how it will be received.

Run for fun!

December 5th, 2009

The funrun along the river bank was held today. Nev and Niall were out with cameras so you can check there or the main site to see how everyone got on. This year the run was all the way into town and back, for the first time since 2001. The weather, as usual, stayed fine; which is pretty good considering the weather and the state of the river recently.

As usual money was collected for charity; this year The Blue Box Creative Learning Centre.

I got to wear a yellow jacket and use the associated authority to stop traffic at the canal bridge. Traffic this year was noticeably less than the last time I did this in 2007. We also got to herd Brunt some of the way home.

Administrivia redux

November 26th, 2009

My old host plan kind of nuked itself so I have done a transfer to a new provider. Everyone say hi to Blacknight, we could be here for a while.

The transfer is a bit more rushed than I might have liked, so bear with me while I iron things out, fluff pillows etc.

Here is a bit of Bohemian Rhapsody to keep you going.

PS Don’t forget to update your RSS feeds, links etc, assuming they are working again.

Last Friday night, as part of the thesis finishing champange drinking extravaganza, Nev popped a bottle of champange with a sabre. We don’t have any before pictures, but John took a couple of afters!

For anyone who wants to try their hand at this at home here is a handy guide. Mind your thumbs and other people and windows and breakable stuff in general.

I would like to thank the Academy…

I’ll do this now, and then regular blogging shall resume. Or at least as regular as it was before…

Manchmal zusammen!

Little Things

November 20th, 2008

I have never seen the point in giving people Homework that is not due for one or two days. Certainly giving a writing assignment on Wednesday that is due Friday and then another on Thursday that is due Monday and a third assignment over the weekend means that you end up writing every day anyway. So why not just make the writing assignments due the next day. Using the excuse that its supposed to be an intensive course when people complain about the number of writing assignments doesn’t help either.

As well as writing assignments we have to make a presentation, ein Referat, on the subject of our choice to show off our (lack of) German. I had mine this week, before we had all these writing assignments and not so long in the course that I needed to use complex grammar things like Nominalisierung or Konjunktiv I or stuff like that.

As part of the Referats people have being using presentations as inspiration, enlightenment and occasionally as a crutch. Open Office is so far the tool of choice, and NeoOffice for the Apple fanboys. I am providing a lot of advice and support for Impress and inserting pictures etc. The first question I always ask is do people have a good Internet connection to access Wiki Commons or Wikipedia or to find other publicly available info and sometimes to download OpenOffice itself. And the answer is always yes! Sometimes with a side order of “what kind of backward place do you think you are in that everyone doesn’t have at least a 6Mb connection to the Internet”…
