We saw, we drank, we ate!

Our mission to drink Barcelona dry of Corona (Coronita in Spanish) was a partial success with only 3 bars and the local spar running out. One bar did try to claim that they had been invaded by Mexicans who drank them dry; that was us as well, the barman just wasn’t able to recall the drunken loud Irish guys in the corner 24 hours later.

It all started really early on Wed morning with John turning up at 6am demanding coffee before driving to Dublin. I thought we were rushing it a bit and we arrived at 9:30AM, in good time for our 12:30PM flight. Much hilarity ensued at security where we had to take our shoes off and watch the ever-efficent personnel shout S L O W L Y and L O U D L Y at obviously confused foreign people and threaten old people with strip searching for the heinous crimes of asking questions and being old. Iberia flights are ok, standard bastardised knock-down “we want to be a low cost airline, but have too much self respect” service that Aer Lingus aren’t able to pull off properly.

We kinda got lost in the airport and ended up at baggage collection in the wrong Terminal. It turned out that this is a pretty common occurence (what with all the signs being in foreign) and the staff were more than happy to give out cryptic directions in broken English to help us out. eventually we got our bags and all was well with the world. I don’t want to single out anyone for blame in the whole incorrect baggage fiasco thing but I have been travelling for quite a while now on my own, and in the company of others (including Darren Ryan!!!) and this has never happened before! Eventually we met Cormac at the airport, and got a taxi into town, which was lucky as I don’t think we would have found the apartment on our own.

We headed off to a local bar near Santa Maria de La Mar. Billy joined us there, happy to see us as usual. We were very disappointed that Billy’s knowledge of Barcelona and Spanish (or catalan or whatever you prefer yourself) wasn’t as good as one would expect after 6 weeks of being immersed in the local culture.

someone never put the chocolate back in the fridge and it all got melted and eaten. Not the crappy greek stuff either – the good stuff. The crappy greek stuff will probably be around for a while

mgb phone home

Vodafone tell me I can upgrade my phone. They don’t have a large range of phones though! so I am asking for recommendations and/or opinions. Here is what I have picked from what they are offering as upgrades.

and from their regular collection

I have more or less arrowed it down to the Sony Ericsson K700i, Siemens S65 or Nokia 6260. If I order online they claim they will deliver within 2 working days. Otherwise I suppose I should be able to pick one up at the weekend. In any case I would like to have it before going to barcelona. Barcelona countdown: 7 days

Normality!

Now that everyone is back from their travels, things are almost back to normal. No real scandal. I suppose being escorted from places of worship at gun point counts! Although not unless you were doing something interesting at the time. And not if you are already the antichrist.

Hilary and Jamie arranged their wedding for Sep 2006, buts that not a scandal either (unless you don’t agree with that sort of thing). The scandal there is that its in Quin(!) and they are limiting it to 40 guests so I can’t bring anybody. Not that the expected me to anyway!!

mgb life deathmatch: Ronan (mike will be married within 5 years) vs Hilary and Jamie (mike will be alone forever). With friends like these who needs enemies.

Anyway. At least there is chocolate in the fridge. But not for long. Bwahahahahahahahahah!!!

and barcelona soon. Barcelona countdown: 8 days

Foot Blogging

So far this week I’ve been to aerobics, the gym and fencing. I’m not sure if my legs are tired because I haven’t doen much exercise in the last 2 weeks or because of the orthotics. Lets blame the orthotics.

More realistically I should probably blame my gym shoes. I’ve noticed for a while that during aerobics, and particularly fancing the shape of the shoe is becoming distorted. Essentially there isn’t a lot of support on the side of the shoes andthere is a tendency for my feet to slide around a lot inside the shoe while lungng etc. As the orthotics don’t move, this means I am chnaging how and where I put pressure on my feet. Sometimes a lot, and its not very comfortable. Keeping my feet flat on the ground helps a lot, so I’ll have to more of that. Head in the clouds; feet on the ground. Its the way forward!!!! And new gym shoes of course.
