Don’t Panic

There is a Radio Series that is called the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Some time later there was a Television Series called the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It drew on the same source material, while interpreting it differently and in no way should be seen as an attempt to transfer the story/plot characers to the small screen. At the same time, and for some time after there appeared a series of books; five of which together form the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy – a trilogy in four or more parts. Tgether they formed yet another re-imaginning of the same concepts and ideas as best suited to the presentation medium.
And now there is another re-interpretation of what was the original concepts and what has gone before and it too is called the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Except its a movie and one of its aims is apparently that it should be understandable by Americans – and not just the wannabe European ones who read books, watch PBS and will have come across the Hitchikers Guide in one or more of its previous incarnations.

And its not bad!!!!! Its quite good actually. The actors are well chosen and they bring their own quirks and mannerisms to the characters. This is particularly true for Arthur and Trillian, but no less so for the others or the minor cast, the whale, the bad guy, Deep Thought, and especially Marvin.

There aren’t so many big special effect shots, except for a REALLY SPECTACULAR one near the end, and of course a really explosive one at the beginning. Overall the sets and backdrops work really well, capturing the spirits of the various places and creatures and reflecting them into set design etc as appropriate.

They even left it open for a sequel…

If you aren’t careful you will start finding your reviews in every fucking tabloid west of Paris! What have you been told before about writing cogent, coherent and bitingly observant prose about media/entertainment? One day someone will stumble (drunkenly I would guess) across this page and find they will need never write again, despite their Job Description reading : 1000 word reviews for one film/book/play/orgy per week to be submitted by close of printing every Friday.

There is showing off your splendid command of prose (for which I have praised you on many occasions with nowhere near the amount of sycophancy that you deserve) and then there is setting up a website and proceeding to do the work of 9 people (broadsheet reviewers mainly) in your spare time whilst you knock out a PhD.

Is there any form of protection for your writing out here in virtual geekland? I mean, em, oh fuckit – geeks, there isn’t a better word created yet although I am in advanced deploy phase (courtesy of Prince 2 Project Management)

You really should look to repress your writing urges, force them to fester within you until it is clear that your health is suffering as a direct result, then let it spill out uncontrollably and without direction until it uses it’s own bile as a base for shaping an attack upon heretofore unknown victims …..

Really need to go do some work!!

Why is your blog an hour behind? Have you finally created your own fiefdom/kingdom/middle earth with 1000’s of little flemings as slaves?

Or is just your spin on the acceptance of the 51st state whereby Irish people speak/sing/keen/lament/beg with a mid-atlantic twang?

    Biting indeed ……

I don’t think blogger does Summer Time/Daylight Savings time automatically.

Of course neither do I – thats why 10:30 makes such a convenient clock-in time.
